Clinical Studies
Clinical studies are always important and are a critical component when designing and developing a supplement or skin care product. However, these clinical studies are generally limited to the ingredients used in a formula.
At Xtend-Life we only use active ingredients that have solid clinical evidence supporting their efficacy and safety. We examine these ingredients at molecular level to determine their compatibility and synergy with other ingredients in the formula. This is important because when you mix ingredients they can interact with each other to form a different compound.
If ingredients are combined scientifically their individual effectiveness can be increased manifold.
Virtually no manufacturer conducts clinical studies on their finished products. This is because of the cost which can run into millions of dollars and unlike a synthetic pharmaceutical product which can enjoy patent protection there is no such protection with natural products. Some supplement companies claim to have a patent pending on their formulas but it is largely ‘smoke and mirrors’ and a small change renders the patent unenforceable.
Another reason is science is moving very fast in the area of supplementation and skin care. The understanding of nutrition both internally and externally continues to increase and new active ingredients are continually developed to improve the efficacy of products.
So, even if it was practical to conduct a clinical study on a supplement or skin care product it is likely it would be out of date before the final report was completed.
As an example, in 2009 we introduced our 7th generation of Total Balance which takes advantage of recent scientific advances in the knowledge of DNA.
With every Xtend-Life product we list down the ingredients that we use in detail. Each ingredient has a link to more info along with supporting clinical data on that ingredient. Each product utilizes the latest knowledge that science can provide to produce the most effective product possible.
