Dean was born in Johannesburg, South Africa where he lived for 28 years before being seduced by the New Zealand landscape and lifestyle during an Australasian holiday in March 2009. He soon moved to Christchurch with his wife Carla (herself born and raised in Johannesburg to Portuguese parents), taking up the position of Communications Manager at Xtend-Life, a position he held until 2010. The couple recently became permanent residents of New Zealand.
During his time in South Africa, Dean matriculated from high school in 1998 and went on to complete a BA Communications degree at RAU, majoring in journalism.
His growing interest in health, physiology and research prompted him to obtain an Honors degree in Sport Science, majoring in human anatomy, exercise physiology and research methodology. His thesis titled “The physiological variables that determine the skill level of golfers” was also submitted for publication review.
With over six years of experience in publishing and media, Dean has established himself in the field of communications and has contributed to over a dozen titles as well as launching three successful magazines. He has extensive knowledge of human physiology and enjoys reading science books and journals in his free time.
Dean can be found jogging around the parks near his home in Christchurch. His other interests include oenology, wine collecting, cooking, surfing, fishing and golf.
